What's in your bedroom? How My Bedroom™ works on HUD App

by Katherine

If you’ve used a dating app, you’ve probably been there. The chat is going well and the chemistry is building, and then comes the question nobody quite knows how to ask. So, what are you into? On a casual dating app that conversation matters, and it's a lot easier when you don't have to start it from scratch. That's the idea behind My Bedroom™, which has been part of HUD App since 2019. It was built to help people find real compatibility by being upfront about what they want, and that purpose hasn't changed.

Say what you're into, and what you're not

My Bedroom™ is a section of your profile where you share your desires with potential matches. You can choose up to three desires you're really into and up to three you're open to exploring, and anything you'd rather keep off the table goes on a separate list with no limit. That gives you room to be enthusiastic and curious while still being clear about your boundaries, all without writing an essay in your bio. The aim is to take the awkwardness and stigma out of these conversations before they start, so desire can be talked about openly rather than whispered about.

It does some of the work for you, too. When you visit someone else's profile, you can see how many desire matches you share, which gives you an easy way into a conversation about what you have in common. If you're looking for something specific, you can also filter potential matches by how open they are to particular bedroom activities.

Find your bedroom personality

If a list of desires feels a bit clinical, Bedroom Archetypes add some personality. There are 12 to choose from, each with its own illustration and description, and the one you pick shows up on your profile and in your bedroom. You can only display one at a time, but you can switch whenever you like, so it can change as you do. If you'd rather not choose, your profile gets a default cover image that can change each time it's opened, so there's always an element of surprise.

Privacy that moves at your pace

Sharing your desires with everyone who lands on your profile can feel exposing, particularly for women, who already face a lot of scrutiny on dating apps. That's why we added a privacy lock. Switch it on and your desires are visible only to people you've matched with, and you choose when to unlock them for each match. The lock also gives you room to read through the desires at your own pace and decide what resonates without anyone watching.

There's no pressure to fill it out, either. My Bedroom™ has never been compulsory. If yours is empty, a potential match can send you a nudge to say they'd like to know more, and they'll be notified if you decide to fill it out later. We've also added six new desires that are deliberately softer in tone, because desire covers a wide spectrum and every part of it belongs here.

Getting started

There's no right way to fill it out. Start with the things you already know you love, add a few you're curious about, and leave the rest for later. You can edit your desires and your archetype at any time, so nothing you choose is set in stone. My Bedroom™ is as much a tool for getting to know yourself as it is a signal of compatibility, so it's fine to take your time.

However you use it, My Bedroom™ is there to help you find people whose desires line up with yours, on your terms.
